Is rape an ultimate portrayal of a man's power???

Flipping through the pages of Times of India newspaper, a particular news article caught my attention. As I went through it, I not only got goose-bums, but it also got me thinking.

The headline said, “A 13 year old “kid” rapes 5 year old.”
13 years old!!! Can you believe it???

I mean, when a 20, 30 or a 40 something guy rapes a minor… one might guess as to what the reason could be. The rapist might be drunk or raging with hormones! But what about a 13 year old child?

This shows that children grasp what elders possess. If a child sees his parents fighting all the time, he too will in all probabilities fight with his/her wife/husband. If a child sees his mother being beaten to death every single day… he too will grasp the same from his father. And if the child sees, reads and hears that playing with a woman’s modesty is the ultimate portrayal of a man’s power and strength… then no wonder, he has already become a potential rapist!

What drives a man to rape? What drives him to rape a minor? And more so, what drives a minor, rape another minor????

I am no expert. But in my 22 years of life, just by reading at least a few hundred thousand articles on rapes, I am very much in a position to guess the possible reasons.

First and the most prominent reason is “portrayal of power”. A lot of literate as well as illiterate men think that women should be suppressed and should live a low profile life all their life. But when males with such mentality see other women in their villages or society take better positions than them… their “ego” goes for a toss and the “best solution” to bring a woman down is “rape her”. SIMPLE!!!

Even in the movie “Lajja”, Rekha was raped and killed only because her son had completed his graduation and as a surprise, brought a computer. The landlord got furious and said, “Bada udd rahe hai, uske pankh kat do” and that was it!

Another reason is looking at women as “an object of pleasure”. Only sick and filthy minds hold such mentalities. Their vision is blocked with lust and is on a constant look out for any opportunity that would help him satiate this “want”!

I am not angry at that 13 year old perpetrator. I feel sorry for him. At an age where he should be going to school, bunking lectures, having flavored ice balls and have fun with his classmates… this poor soul, by virtue of his doings… has smashed his future with his own hands.

Kids today are maturing faster than they used to in my time. They have access to information in ways more than one can imagine.

So there’s only 1 thing that I wish to say to all my readers: Do not ignore any signs of extreme behavior such as stealing, constant arguing and addiction to certain websites on the internet in your children and siblings. You never know what they are up to in their head! And also, mind your behavior when you have kids around.

You never know what leaves a print behind…

  2. Change, just like responsibility should come from inside... As Gandhiji said, "be the change you wish to see in the world", each and every parent should also teach morals to his/her kid apart from studies and forcing them to get good grades. And now, for the beasts who are totally aware of what they are doing and still do rape, fear must be imposed in them. into every nerve of them. Hang a rapist instantly where the world can see and let his body decompose hanging... Everyday, everyone who takes a look at that body will be terrified to do the wrong or rather sin he did. Thank you.

    1. Thank you Rohit for sharing your views... and i must say, you are 500% right!!!
"Fear should be IMPOSED on them" and this will happen only when strict actions are taken. Just by framing fancy laws, the objective will never be achieved!

We have seen that even after framing anti-"x" or anti-"y" law, barely anything changes... because even for a perpetrator to be jailed, it takes several years to be proved.

Such issues need to be handled with great sensitivity and should be resolved in fast track courts.

But unless and until, a particular case is not "High Profile" or has "stirred" the nation... nothing is done!
      Don't you agree?

    2. I would say, even if a case stirs the nation, nothing is done. We all know what happened in 'nirbhaya' case and none know what action is taken on the accused. The case was everywhere for 10-15 days in news papers and TVs and all of a sudden, it vanished. Why I am saying now is because, our system is dumb and corrupt. Whatever crime you commit, you can easily get out of it with money. So, as young and next generation, we have the power to change the society, system and country. It may sound out of reality but it is possible. So, as civilized and educated citizens, everyone of us have to take responsibility. Thank you.

    3. True!

We are no doubt some where or the other responsible, but even the media for that matter is no less!

As you mentioned, the "nirbhaya" case vanished all of a sudden... and even the high profile rape/murder cases on political and spiritual leaders, is not given as much coverage as any other piece of news!

News is what the news channels want us to know... not what the ACTUAL truth is!

    4. What happened to N.D.Tiwary case..??? What is government doing when he is refusing to give his DNA sample for past 3 yrs..?? Would it be the same scenario if a common man refused to give his DNA sample?? How many public representatives are punished, or at least suspended from their positions who were caught watching blue films in assembly red-handed..?? Today's print and digital media is totally organized and no doubt in that. So, they act faithful to their so-called 'financier'. Those days where media had the power to change governments are gone. Just gone. Today, all that media cares is just TRP ratings and have no ethics at all. I mean, when a channel is so enthusiastic to broadcast a scandal in their channel for every 5 mins and to conduct a discussion on that for 30 mins and 3 times a day and cover a news in such a way that it sends totally negative image into youth, they should also act responsibly and at least should show what is happening to the accused and what measures is the government is taking, if it's really taking any action. Thank you.

    5. Totally totally!!!!

Even the very recent Asha Ram Bapu Case. When an FIR is lodged against any person, irrespective of whether he/she is a politician/actor/spiritual master/ Pandit or a comman man... the person is not allowed to leave the state no matter what! But asha ram bapu is roaming around freely.

I am not saying that the allegation is true. It may or may not be. But when you see the very police discriminate so much in their way of handling cases... all hope and trust vanishes...!!!

    6. Well, in India, law is made and is applicable for only common man and poor people. If you have power or money, well, you can do whatever you want. There is no trust left. Trust is a myth today. Well, speaking about hope, it is a hypothetical question.
