Manly Meals v/s Girlie Food

Why do men reach for the greasy hot dog, while women drool over hot chocolate?

Have you ever heard a man say, “I am hungry. Let’s have oatmeal with some strawberry? Probably not! Since time in memorial, food such as strawberry, chocolate, salads and cupcakes have been considered feminine, where as those like hot dog, red meat and greasy fried chicken have symbolized masculinity.

There are a few exceptions here and there, but it has been seen that generally, a man’s appetite is larger than a woman. Guys tend to think that they haven’t had a complete meal unless a BIG piece is not gulped down their gullet, where as for women, having salad with fat free yogurt might serve as an entire dinner!

A recent study conducted by the National Institute of Nutrition, Canada says that the reason behind differing choices of food is “Pancreatic Polypeptide”. It is the name of the hormone released in men after a meal. It is said to be linked to the taste buds, and that’s why men love food more than women do! ;)

But it is not just the nerves and hormones that make men take bigger bites. Throughout history, eating meat has symbolized the act of “hunting” which requires “strength”. And a man is always portrayed “strong”, because of the food he eats, which is more than often high on proteins. Women on the other hand, are genetically inclined towards sweet tastes. As a result, the cocktails and alcoholic drinks prepared for women are sweeter while the same for men are bitter and scotch!

In today’s time, the male v/s female appetite may not be as rigid as before, but the gender division remains.   So the next time you wonder why your girl nibbles after a few bites of chicken or why your guy savors those burgers and runs away from salads and yogurt, just remember that it is just another man v/s woman thing on the plate ;)
