If
you grew up in the 80s and 90s, you are much fortunate than today’s somewhat silly
generation. Ask me why? Because you have enjoyed an actual childhood, before
the mobile phones, smart phones, tablets and Facebooks of the world took over
and ruined it all!
Here
are some of the most cherished childhood memories and if you still remember any
of these, you had an awesome childhood.
1. Mango Frooti… Fresh
& Juicy :
Frooti was the only beverage we knew. Be it a friend’s birthday
party or a day out with family, it was incomplete without this little packet of
joy!
2. Lakdi ki Kaathi… Kaathi
pe Ghoda :
The song “Lakdi ki Kaathi” can still send each and
every one of us down the memory lane. I still remember how my mother used to sing
and dramatically enact this song to rock me to sleep.
3. Bank Accounts v/s
Gullack :
We didn’t need bank accounts and credit cards. All we
needed was a Piggy bank, and we felt like millionaires. Didn’t we?
4. Games = Pakada
Pakadi :
We have spent hundreds of happy summer evenings playing
Pakada-Pakadi, Pithoo and Hop-Scotch (Langdi Tang). It was impossible for our
parents to keep us from going out and play, unlike kids these days, who often prefer
staying back at home and remain glued to their tablets and phones. What a creative way to kill your brain cells!
5. Ludo > Cartoon
Network > Dexter’s Lab :
But when we did stay indoors, we were gainfully engaged
in honing our Ludo, Snakes & Ladder and Monopoly skills!
And after numerous rounds of these highly intellectual
games, we watched Dexter’s Laboratory, Swat Cats and Telletabies.
6. Chocolate love :
It was the time when we didn’t think of “calories” and “Fat”
content! If you see chocolate, you eat it. Period.
7. Bunk School =
Feeling like James Bond
You felt like James Bond, when your mother bought the “Stomach
Ache” excuse and got you to bunk school! **Evil Laugh**
8. Going to sleep on
the couch in a boring family function, and waking up in your own bed. Unforgettable
J
This memory in particular has always made me feel, that
no matter where I am in life, whether I get lost or dose off, there is someone
who will bring me back to where I actually belong. Isn’t this feeling
beautiful?
9. Pampering :
That pat on the back from dad and the mouthwateringly
delicious kheer mother made, when you scored well in exam!
10. We were the next Picasso
:
That’s right. This huge briefcase right there was our
annual art supply kit. Complete with crayons, sketch pens, watercolors, a
pencil, rubber, pins and a brush, our life was sorted.
We relied on white chalk to hide the shoes dirt, as we
had no other choice on Saturdays. And let’s be real, who wants to wake up early
and polish them… just to wear for a single day?!
12. When your father
took you to the barbers on Sunday :
This reminds me of some really fond childhood memories with
my father. He used to take me along to the barbers’ or a male salon, and ask which
of these cuts do you want. Military cut? Zero Cut? Bowl Cut? Layer Cut? And I would
wonder why none of the pictures being shown, even closely resembles the
different cuts and curls girls in my class have! After a lot of thought, I would
settle for the one whose picture had maximum fringes on the forehead.

I miss any? Share them in the comments below.
